After spending most of the morning in Lake Placid, NY....we headed north to Burlington, VT for the night. Heading out of Lake Placid, we made a point to detour through the town to cruise past the Olympic Center. The country flags still fly along both sides of the street.
We had to cross Lake Champlain at the NY border to get to Burlington, VT. At the King Street dock we boarded the ferry and spent the next hour watching the sunset as we headed towards our next destination. This is where we got the first taste of weather on our trip.
Enter the rain (a lot!).
As soon as we exited the ferry...we planned to make a quick dinner stop in town before continuing on to our bed & breakfast for the night. We almost made it before the storm came....but weren't quite lucky enough. As we were heading to the B & B....all hell broke loose and the downpour began! Heavy and fast! We were soaked within minutes, and still 10 minutes from our room.
The owner of the B & B graciously volunteered for us to use his washer/dryer once we arrived.....or so we thought. It was great to dry out all of our wet clothes overnight, but I wasn't too happy the next morning when we found out he tacked on $10 to our bill because we used the dryer. What the heck? I wouldn't have been so upset had he mentioned this when he "volunteered" his washer/ dryer last evening..... but, surprise!....we now owe him for his kind gesture! Goodbye, Vermont!
Off to the the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. We spent the next morning riding through some very scenic roads as we crossed Vermont and New Hampshire. With every passing mile, we were on the lookout for a moose! Unfortunately, no moose.....but some very nice photo-ops up in the hills and mountains of the National Forest.
The one thing I was looking forward to all day.....was some sort of "surprise" Jenesa had planned for me at our next stop. She said that the next bed & breakfast was booked with me in mind.....but she wouldn't tell me anything else except the address.
